Question 2000 ORP 4x4 14mm lug nut torque and sequences - final answer?

I have search the archives but can not find a final answer to this question. Has it been determined that the torque is 100 ft/lbs or 150 ft/lbs? I do have the 17" with disk front and rear. Just rotated the tires and want to get it back right. I don't see any refernce to it in the owners manual, so any help is appreciated!

TIA!

Cool

If you look on the black washers connected to the lug nuts it has the torque amount printed in them.or should have.

Thanks guys! I see the nuts have 150 ft/lbs or 200 nM. That is a little extreme for Aluminum wheels. I put them at 100 ft/lbs and will see how it acts. I did find the sequence for tightening in the manual.

Hey Nitrox, you have any pics. We have the same basic truck, just different colors.

Ford garage told me if it is an early 2000 f-150 the torque is 105 ft lbs. and late models are 150 ft lbs. (don't know the date) Also they had to replace a rim because of defective clear coat. There are 2 different 17" ORP rim sizes and the rims look the same, I think it may be the size of the lugnut studs' hole that are different, those swapping rims may want to check on the size first.

The correct number is 100 ft/lbs or a gray tork stick, I looked it up at work and that is what the book says.
as for the sequence just do it in a star patteren that should work.

you said that you rotated your tires how did you rotae your tires I hope that you went from front to back because with radial tires the belts will can bacome almost directionals where you don't want to switch sides, the belts can let go inside the tire and give you a hop in the tire. I know that some people will not agree with me but I work for GoodYear and this is what they tell us at work now some tire Co. might be different this is just what G/Y tell us.

Question

Bubba:
Will the late 2000’s still work on a 99? A friend of mine wants to trade my chrome steel 17’s for her alloys. Is it just the lug nut pilot bushing size difference?

Thumbs up

I have the 14-mm 2000 ORP 17" on my '99 2wd. The lug holes are bigger (12mm vs 14mm), but not substantially though. The important center hole is the same. I've run a couple of thousand miles w/o any problems at all. Rechecked torque settings on lugs, no vibration, no negative effects at all. I'm not suggesting you to run them, but I've had no problems. My rims are stamped 17 X 14mm in the area under the hubcap next to the lugnut holes. There is already some clearance between the rim holes and the lugnut stud (maybe 1/16"in. at most) It looks to me that if you have a 12mm size lugnut stud and try to use 14mm rims there will be too much free space between the lugnut stud and the rim hole possibly causing the rim to shift on the studs.

Bubba:
Do you (Or anyone) know what the production cut off date was on the 12mm to 14mm rim change?

Bob my truck was built in the middle of August in '99, which would make it an early 2000 and I am sure it has 14mm wheels

I did it by the book. Cross ways without the spare. I had three fords wihing the last 6 years and always did the cross rotation with out any problems. Not doubting your info but I'm old and you know old habits are hard to break. I spent many years moving 44"'s from front to back and watched them wear away quickly, even though they usually have a softer compound rubber than normal sized tires, this type rotation doesn't do much for saving tire wear. Can G/Y provide any official documentation or studies that say its tire will last longer without doing cross rotations? I'm just glad FORD didn't use Firestones on my truck.

I will look for something at work that says that, but if you haven't had any problems thats cool. Were the other fords that you have had trucks or were they cars because the tires are built a litle different as far as the steel belts in them. I will look for you. I even asked a few people at work yesterday and they told me the same thing..

Bubba,
My 12-mm original wheels also had the gap area around the lugs, the 14-mm's have a little more gap. With these wheels being hub-centric, the matching center is all-important here. If the lugs get loose, the wheel will shift (both on the 12-mm and 14-mm) on the hubs. I have repeatedly checked the torque settings on the lugs, which only clamp the wheel to the hub, and have no shift at all. I'd rather have the matching 12-mm lugs, but the wheels were too good to pass up, so I experimented and gained a smoother ride to boot!! I'll stop boring the crowd now! Doc

I called Tire Rack, 4Wheel parts, and my local Ford dealer and they all said that the 17" ORP wheels have been 14mm since 1997. Could they be wrong? I'll look on my wheels. I hope they stamp that number into the steel wheels as well.
