Aftermarket tires

Hi all, as of last Saturday I am the proud new owner of a black 2001 F150 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4L. It's evidently modified, I checked under it and it has Rancho something or other shocks and struts, as well as Flowmaster dual exhaust. It still has the stock 5-spoke chrome wheels, and I was wondering a couple of things:

a) What's the largest (reasonable) tire size I can go up to?

b) What are some good all-season tires? I sold my modified Mustang to get this truck and am a total noob with truck tire sizes and what brands are good, what to look for, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Hello AggieSarah,

Congratulations on you newly acquired truck. I have a black 2000 F150 Lariat 4x4 with the 5.4L and it's a great truck, I am sure yours will be too. Here are my answers to your questions:

a) You can go a big as 285/75-17 with no problems, but you will be limited to All Terrain and Mud Terrain tires in that size. If you want all-season tires you will have to stick with the stock size 265/70-17.

b) You will get a lot of different opinions on tire brands here but most major tire manufacturers make tires in 265/70-17 so pick your favorite.

Note: If you want to look at All Terrain tires in 285/75-17 check out the following:
