Post Tire Suggestions for 17 inch rims.

I have factory 17 inch rims with goodyear
GT II's and they are starting to wear out, they have always sucked in wet weather and forget about going thru any kind of mud loose gravel etc... My F150 is a two wheel drive but I wanted to know if anybody has any suggestions on what type of tires I should get to handle rain slick streets and occasionally offroad driving.

It's a GTS Omni Guard and I like it very much. Low profile, and on the black paint it's nearly invisible.

InfiniteMhz,
the new Sports come with BFG Radial Long Trail T/A's, and as far as I am concerned, these tires kick a$%. They hold amazingly well in the rain, and even in a snowy parking lot it takes some effort to get them to loose control. I haven't really had a chance to get them into any real mud, but I would guess that they would do really well.

I'm with Vocaire. I was surprised when mine was delivered with the BFGoodrich tires, as I was expecting the Goodyears that the 99 Sports had. The tires are great, however, and I would get them again when the time comes.............

Go to tirerack.com and compare tires!

I too have the 17's and the Goodyears SUCK! I just ordered what I think is the best tire,
Micheline LTX M/S 265/70/17.......
THis tire out performs them ALL! However, this is NOT an off-road tire! This is for an occasional off-road adventure! Nothing too difficult! But it supposedly works best in the rain compared to all others in this size!

Good luck!

I have reciently seen Super Swamper Radials advertised in an off road mag in 17 inch sizes. Im not sure how aggressive you are looking to get. I have also seen BFG All Terrains in a 17 inch rim size. This may not be the best tire made, but when it comes to looks, BFG's are damn hard to beat.

I have 17" Goodyear AT/S right now, and I don't like them much. I've taken them off-road, dry dirt and mud, and they're just ok. And, they seem decent enough on the street, dry and wet. My personal choice are the BFG All-Terrain T/A's! I had them on a 4Runner, and I took that thing everywhere and threw it around like a rag-doll. Plus, they look kick-***. Nuff said.

ricky154,

I liked the look of the BFG All Terrian T/A and you said you had them on your 4runner, but I was wondering if you know anybody that has them on a two wheel drive truck and how they handle the rain slick streets.

Trading in my 98 Super Cab 4x4 and waiting for delivery of new truck.I also hate skating in wet weather on the Goodyears.Do you think any tire shops would consider a swap for another tire as soon as my truck comes in?

Infinite,
Sorry for the delay in replying; I haven't checked back on this thread recently. Anyway, not only are the BFG's kick-butt tuff looking all-around tires, they handled supremely. Like I said, I used throw that 4Runner around like a punching bag, both on the dirt and pavement. Most of the time, especially on the street, it was in 2-wheel drive. It doesn't rain much here in SoCal, but when it did, I didn't feel unsure in anyway. Actually, it was kindda fun letting your rear slip and slide around a little because you're always sure that the tires would grip again as soon as you let off the gas. I know my opinions are definitely biased in favor of the BFG T/A's, but I hope that helps a little.

Thumbs up

infiniteMhz,

I have the BFG a/t ko's on my ORP 17" wheels.
They are smoother riding than the OEM Goodyears and much better rain traction.
In 2 wheel drive I have to try to spin them in the rain. On dry roads they don't spin at all.
I also have a limited slip rear end. So that will also make a difference.
If you choose to go with BFG, you'll be glad you did!!

Take care,
Redwing

What does the KO stand for in on your BFG Allterrian's. The ads that I have seen in the back of magazines don't mention KO.

Thanks
