315/70/17s Deal of the day...

Like most folks on here, I wanted bigger tires, without the bigger cost. Then I got to thinking...

The new Hummer H2 comes with 315/70/17 BFG A/Ts stock. It's hard to tell that however, because of all the G-ride conversions done around here that put 'em on dubs. So I called my local Hummer dealer (Classic Hummer in Grapevine for the D/FW folks) and asked them if they had the factory take-offs from when the customer went big and shiny. I was met with two surprises:

1. The Hummer guys weren't nearly as snobbish as I thought they would be, and

2. They do have the takeoffs, and had a set they had no use for.

So after a bit of wheeling and dealing, I was able to get a set of four take-offs, still had the bumps on them for $300. I did have to go back and forth quite a bit with the guy and finally had to flash the cash in front of him to take the deal. Took 'em over to Discount and had them mounted the same day.

Now, I don't know if every dealer does this, or what they might charge. I figure it's like the discount tire used rack in a sort of way, where it's a straight profit deal for them. But I figured there's probably some folks on this board that could use a helluva deal on some good shoes.

Good luck!

Bah, you know... the little knobbies, ah... the rubber string looking things that stick up from the tread when they're brand new...

The rubber, stringy, bumpy, tag looking things...
