Post Check Your Spare

Just dropped the spare tire to fix a flat and found that it had rubbed the undercarriage to the point the cords in the sidewalls were exposed. Still held air pressure and got me home. I had regularly checked for tire pressure but never lowered the tire. Ruined a brand new tire. You might want to take a look at yours or put something like a piece of rubber between the tire and where it seats against the undercarriage. The wear came with 70,000 highway miles on my 1999 F150 2WD. Bet you off roaders see it worse.

Cool

I lowered my tire when my truck had 5,000 miles on it(truck now has 36,000 miles in 13 months), and put a piece of carpet between the tire and the undercarriage, and have yet to have any problems. My truck sees it fair share of offroading, so it takes the abuse. Just going to lower it this weekend, to wash it out, and put it in the truck bed for a long weekend of hunting....no fun crawling under the truck to get the spare when you are in the mud should something happen.
