Question Tire Pressure 4x4

I just bought a 2000 150 with Goodyear LT265/70/17 OWL tires on it. The tire pressure was only 24 lbs. in each tire from the dealer. What is recommended for these? I currently have 42lbs in all 4.

Do not, i repeat do not air them up to the sidewall pressure!!! The psi on the side of the tire is a MAXIMUM and you should always be at least 5psi below the max for safety. Use the recommended pressure, i think its on the door jam. I use 32-35psi in my 265/75/16s but thats a personal preference. You shouldnt have to go above 35 unless you tow a battleship regularly. Airing them to the maximun will cause uneven wear and overheating. Overheating leads to crazy exploding tires, ie Firestone.

LT tires take a bunch more air than P tires.

Nick's door sticker calls for 50 front 65 rear -- but since I don't run loaded -- 65 shakes the fillings in my teeth, so I run 50 front/rear.

Check the side of the tire. It will say what the tire manufacturer reccommends.

It says max 50 psi. That's not what I think should be in these. Is this right? Isn't that a bit high?

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I didn't think I should run 50 psi., so I have been running 43f/46r. I don't tow anything as of yet. I will be in the next 6 months as soon as I find the boat I want. Thanks again.

Those ratings in the sidewall are for reference. That's one of the tire specs but not neccesarily you will be running that pressure. They just want to tell you that the tire will stand a specific load under specific temperature, pressure. Door stickers and tire sidewalls will not tell us what we need, but it is very important information on safety while staying in the range.

This is my experience. I've been running my 4 Goodyear RT/S P265/70R17 with (average) 35PSI front and 32PSI rear. I do 70% city driving and the rest is highway. Got from them 54k miles, I am receiving new tires next week.

Gee, lariat4wd, I believe that I have the exact same tires on my 2000 Lariat 4wd ext cab (built 8/28/99) and could have sworn that my sidewall figure was 35 psi max because I did check it out when inspecting those huge tires. I don't have the offroad tires, just the all terrain, which, the dealer source book copy that I was able to obtain said, were ...'significantly strengthened for the '00 model year'.... MY dealer had ~42 in each tire when I picked it up (although I think that they just did not check them since don't they put more in than required for strapping them down to the carrier for shipment?) and I now run about 35 in rear and 37 in front. But now I want to check again. My tires, esp in the front looked a little too squishy for my tastes at the recommended pressure, which I forget but was around 28 or 32 or something. I wanted a little help with the *dismal* winter gas mileage also! If indeed the sidewall pressure IS listed at 50, then I think I'll go up another few pounds or so since the ride is not bad.
Charlie

I am now running 47 in front and 45 in rear. Dealer recommended I run 50 in all four. I don't think so!!

Well guys - tire pressures are ALMOST a choice - look at the door sticker thats the best bet.
P rated (pass. tires) won't stand much more than 35psi.
I have E rated BFG's & tow a 5th wheel & run 50 - F&R - low pressure builds heat & wears the sidewalls, - too much - wears the center & it does ride hard.
Pick what you like within reason & check 'em often. - The door sticker is key, - unless you have replaced them with non OEM's
