Post 7 inches of lift and 38 or 39's

A friend of mine is going to put a 4 inch suspension and 3 inch body lift on his 99 4by orp. He is not sure what type of radials to go with he is planning on running 38 or 39 inch tires. I know Mickey Thompson and super swamper makes that big. Who else does, and whats everyone expperience with the ride and treadlife on radials this size???

I have had the 36 Swamper radials and were not happy with them. Never could get them to balance out very well and even had them replace a couple to see I could get a better balanced pair but never really helped. Very loud on highway and I have been told that tread life on them is only about 15000 miles.
Mickey Thompson does not make a radial that big. The Parnelli Jones that I run are the one I would recommend but 36's are as large as they go for the now but 38's should be out soon(so they say). Just for your info..There is no way 38's will fit with 7" lift without major rubbing and forget about going offroad.. He will have to do some cutting and crank his torsion bars way up which will kill any ride quality he had. I have 7" of lift and my 36's rub slightly when sharp turning on inclines. Not bad but it does rub. And don't forget about the gears he'll need. If he does get the 38's, I would love to see it. It will be one bad *** truck.
Just my .02

See ya, Scott

Cool

Squanto is right. My best friend has a 4" suspension lift, and 3" body lift with 36" Mickey Thompsons and they rub a little bit. Those 38's are gonna be a problem.

I've got to get in on this one....lol I've seen people do it before. There are two people in the owner's gallery who run the 39x15R16.5 Mickeys, with a 4" susp lift and 3" body lift. I've also seen two guys around where I live run the 38x14.50 Swamper SX's with the same setup. Like Squanto said, not having a radial tire will definitley effect the ride quality, but to each his own I suppose. I will say although you can fit a 38+ size tires on, rubbing will be an issue, and secondly, don't go past a 15" wide tire, because then you probably wouldnt even be able to make it into a lot of driveways because of rubbing. Myself, Im going to stick with 36's when I get all this done next month or so.....at least for now...lol

Ok,i had to get in on this one too...Good friend of mine drives a single cab white F150 with 39" mickey thompson baja belteds...they ride like crap, rub like crap and his performance is terrible, even with the different gears. I mean, if your friend is dead set on 39s then like they all say, to everyone his own, but i personal would rather see a balanced truck on some 36s than one with 38/39s...but i suppose thats me...my 2 cents also...

I have a 97 by without orp with a 3' body lift and 35's on 16 by 8 rims. I had to crank the torsion bars up about an inch to eliminate rubbing on sharp turns. What size rims are they running with the 38's? He's wanting to go with 16 by 10's with 13 or 14.5.

I have a 4" + 2" lift with 36" radial swampers and I love them. I don't have any problems with rubbing or anything. The shop I go to balances huge tires everyday, so I've never had a ballance problem. They do wear out fast, I'm on my second set, the first ones lasted 20k miles. There are people I know that have a 4 + 3 lift running 38s. Some of them trimmed, some of them rub, they all suck! When these tires wear out (about another 15k miles), I'm throwing in a solid axle and then going on the 38" radial swampers.

I agree with Fordman I love my Super Swampers (with the exception of the problems I have had w/ 3 of them. They do wear out fast, but they do perform well, look & sound awesome!!

By the way did you guys see the new tire Interco is coming out with? TrXus M/T www.intercotire.com/trxus.htm
