Thanks Mudder, I like your set up but want wider tire on 16x8 rims, taller too. Maybe 295/75/16 on 16x 8 wheels is the hot set up. I WANT 305s but I will not regear the truck. How much are gears? and put in? Need power to pull boat can not afford to regear or do work on motor to get horsepower back. How much power was lost with 285s. I have stock 255s now.

Goochy,

I've got 4.10's in my rig. When I went from 265/70-17's to 285/75-16's (1.5" diameter difference) I noticed a very definate loss. You're making a much bigger jump in size. If you're not making a gear change, you might end up having to run with overdrive off most of the time. If it were me, I would give it some more thought.

Thanks, 98FWord I'm really thinking about it alot. My friend at work has same truck, he has 17in and his is stock and taller than mine. Same gear, motor, etc. He loves it. I have 255/70/16s stock. A 305/70/16(like Woody24) is 32.85 (I think) thats what I really want! I love the way 305s look on the truck, Just have to talk to someone who has the same setup. 2001 supercrew, 5.4,3.55 gear, tow package, loaded XLT. Why did FORD put such a small tire on mine and larger tires on other trucks? I think a 305 should work great, but still thinking.

Cool

Goochy,
Sorry for the delay. The wife and I have family coming in this weekend, so I've been pretty busy as of late.

My screw is a lariat 4x2, with the 5.4 and 3.55 gears.
I went with the 305/70/16 Goodyear AT's. The wheels are Centerline 16/8's.
The lift is from Fabtech, and is the "6.5 ultimate system". I understand you have a 4x4, so my info may not completely apply to you.

First off, my last ride was a Chevy Blazer [s-10] with the 4.3 vortec v6. I have not had a full size truck in about 8 years. I don't tow anything either.

98fword is correct. I run mine without OD on the surface streets, and with OD on the freeways. I don't feel any power loss with this set up, though keep in mind my experience the last few years. I'm sure there is a loss, I just don't know any better . I need to recalibrate my odometer/speedometer, I just have not heard which is the right way. Gears or reprogram the computer.

On the tires and wheels. I have heard horror stories about both of my choices, on this web site. I don't know if I have been lucky, or they have been very unlucky. I have not had any problems with either, in fact they have performed very well. I've taken a few trips up to the local mountains, and have thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Plenty of power, and the handling has been great. I was surprised that you had the 255's, my stockers were the 275's.

Thanks for the compliments, I hope you're enjoying yours as much as I am. Happy Holidays.

This truck was my inspiration :^D

Cool

Thanks, 2x4!!!!!!!!!! Thats one BAD 2 wheel drive. Thanks for info, I have found a guy who has large tires on his, just have to stop him next time I see him.(local guy). Still loking at 305s (32.85), because the 295/75/16 are bigger(33.50). Confussed 285s are 32.90 why are the nubers out of order? Maybe some taller because of the 70 vs 75 on width? Talk to Mike on the chip section he seems really nice and knows his stuff.
