Post Changing gear's for 36's

In the next few months i might be adding 3inch spindles and 36x12.50 tsl-radial tires. What gears should i get if i want slightly better than stock performance? (stock is 3.55)
thanks
J.D.

Cool

Are you sure 36's will fit buddy? I mean bigEd has 36's on a 7" lifted 4x4 and they still rub on turns. Davensa has 9 1/2 inches of lift on his 4x2 and runs 315's, not sure if even he could fit 36's with no rubbing. I think 35's are the perfect fit on a 4x2, but then again it's not my truck. I also remember my buddy CCLA who has 35's on his 4x2, and he has 7 inches of lift. Looks sweet, but I think he said they rubbed a tiny bit.

Good luck though JD. Hopefully you will make the rally in San Antonio in March.

hey Mudder,
this is how i figure that they will fit. Dirtslinger has 7 inches of lift and runs 35s, my truck will have 7.75 inches of lift. So the difference in tire radias is only 1/2 inch and i will have more than a half inch of lift over what he has. Also Dirtsliger has the rancho suspension lift, which allows for better than stock flexing in the front. But my truck has the same amont of flex as stock (maybe even stiffer with the spacers in)so the is less room needed for articulation.
tell me if that makes any since,
JDm

Don't forget about the backspacing and offset of the rims you plan on using. You can be running a 35" tire on a 8-10" rim with 4-5" inch of backspace with no rubbing and on the other hand the same tire may rub if you cahnge the backspace to less than 4".

Remember this is just a simple example. There are a lot of posible combinations out there. Good luck.

I am with Squanto. Save the money and be very patient. So you can use the money toward the purchase of a 4x4 or help your folks get one sooner. Good luck and be a good son. That helps.

Take your new tire diameter and divide it by your old tire diameter and multiply the answer by your current axle ratio to see what you'll need as an axle ratio just to stay even, performance wise.

For example:

36" / 30" = 1.2 x 3.55 = 4.25 needed to stay even -- so, it looks like there's a 4.56:1 in your future.
