I was told that the stock tires on my truck will perform better in the snow than bigger fatter tires because of the ability to "cut" through the snow.
is this true?
p.s.(I just had 18 inches fall over the weekend nd my truck handled it great, but the stock tires I have on my truck now look ridiculous and are too small for me)

It's partially true. Thicker tires tend to float more on the snow. Personally, I think it depends on the tread pattern and if you have studs or not.

It all depends on the situation. If you are trying to go through really deep snow wider tires give more floatation allowing you to somewhat drive over the snow. The narrow ones would cut through the snow and get your frame hung up on the snow. Like I said it depends on each situation. I myself have tall narrow tires. For the most part for me they have helped me, but they have also gotten me stuck twice.
