Post bigger tires

I have 97 F150 supercab with stock wheels and tires. Will 255\50\17 tires fit the truck or will they cause problems?

They'll fit but they're only 27" dia. Your speedo will be off by 10% and other things, like your automatic trans (if you have one) may be affected as well. You're going to need to get the speed sensor recalibrated or buy a Superchip programmed for your tire dia.

Thanks Ranger. I was wondering how they will look. Will the tires stick out from the truck alot and if so how can you make it look flush with the truck? How much are the superchips and what do they do?

They're the same width as the factory optional 255/70-16 tires, so IF YOUR BACKSPACING IS CORRECT they'll fit just like stock, except you'll have a larger gap above the tire and under the top of the wheelwell. (Time for a 3/4 lowering kit?) As for the Superchip, check out the posts under "computer chips," especially those by Superchips_Distributor, who gives a nice discount to F-150Online members

Thanks Ranger. I was thinking about getting the 2"/4" drop kit but I might go with the 3"/4" instead. I read some things about the superchip and I think I better buy it!
