285-70R17 BFG All Terrain

Tomorrow morning I am having some 285-70R17 BFGoodrich All Terrain tires mounted on the stock rims for my truck. I saw them on another F-150 Lariat the other day and they looked good. Anybody have these tires and/or would like to comment on them? Once they are installed I will post on how they look/ride.

My only comment is that I think you'll find them to be everything that you expected. I have 0 complaints.

I guess its safe to assume that you have them mounted now? I am considering the same tire for my '04. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay, and where did you get them?

Yes, I have them mounted now. I forgot to reply once I did . I actually bought them through a local tire shop in town and I paid $193.25 per tire, it came up to be around $830 mounted, balanced, and taxed. I know they are expensive but I feel they are/will be well worth it.

Question

Hey GearHead and GreenMachine,

I have an 01 Screw and am looking to put new shoes on soon...how's the ride with the 285s? how much did it affect your mpg? and the road noise compared to the stock Goodyears?

I have a shop right around the corner that can have the Bridgestone Dueler AT/Revos installed anytime, but those 285 BFGs look so nice...

thanks..

Ride is stiffer. I was looking for this when I went to an LT tire as opposed to a passanger car tire. I put some RSX shocks, a rear sway bar and the tires. I wanted a stiffer ride. No perceptable change in my mileage. My mileage has always been better than I would have guessed up front. I'm sure some of my mods have helped here. There is probably a little more noise than the GoodYears have but not much. I don't have much good to say about the GoodYears, honestly the worst tires I have ever had. They were greasy cheese ball tires. They were slippery in snow, mud, wet and dry pavement. Sidewall flex was terrible and they picked up rocks. They would break loose off of a light under light to moderate throttle. I hated everything about them.

I agree with ya about the goodyears, imagine them with 50k on em!

I'm just trying to make that decision between the highly regarded Dueler AT Revos, or the bitchin' 285/70/17 BFGs....

I had the Revos on my last truck. Put about 10k miles on them before I decided to buy a new F-150. I really wanted the larger size of 285/70R17 in which the Revos are not made. With the reputation of the BFG, I replaced the OEM tires a couple days after delivery of the new truck. I wish I had gotten the Revos. The BFG is a good tire and they looks perfect in this size, but the Revo was better. More grip on wet pavement. Less rotational mass which means better performance and fuel economy. And, they are cheaper. The only thing I think the BFG does is look better in regards to its size. The Revos is an attractive tire as well, but 265/70R17 looks a little under-tired.

Well I really can't give a good comparison because the truck was my dad's since brand new and I got the new tires put on about a week after it became "mine," so I didn't have too much experience with the Goodyears. All I know is that the BFG's were a little pricey but they look awesome and I haven't had any problems yet (drove in the rain, have not taken it off road yet).

Biggest Tires for stock rims?

I'm considering a set of BFGs for my 2003 Supercrew Fx4. Are 285/70R17s the biggest that will fit, without body modifications on the stock rims?

Some people have 315/70R17 on stock rims by just cranking the torsion bar and trimming some plastic. 305/70 as well.

I'm going to check into 305/70R17s. By trimming plastic are you talking about the air dam?

Thanks for the info.

Tires

I'm also battling the decision of which tire to buy between the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo or BFG AT ko for my 03 F150 Supercrew Lariat FX4. They are both definitely a good replacement tire for the original Goodyears, but I'm a little confused about the Revos. I haven't seen them listed as LT rated tires for the 265/70R17 size. If it's true that they're only rated as "P"assenger tires for 17" rims, are they less aggressive than the LT Revos for 16" rims. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

I'm telling you now, you'll absolutly love everything about the BFG All Terrain TA/KOs. The only thing I regret about them is the fact that I put the stock size 265/70/17. I wish I would've went a size up but they tire place didn't stock them and didn't know weather they'd fit so I just stuck with the stock size. BTW did you know the BFG guarantees that you will not get stuck with these tires or they'll pay for the tow out? Check the website out if you don't believe me
