Off Road with 255/70/16's
Hello all,
Does anyone go off road with 255/70/16 size tires? I go camping about 10 times or so over the summer and am wondering if this size tire will get me where I want to go. I'm thinking of several different tires, cooper discover AT, Pirreli Scorpion AT, Dunlop Radial Rover RV & Bridgestone Dualer AT. Would I be better off just keeping my stock 235/70/16 and buying a larger tire for off roading like a 265/75/16 with an aggressive tread? One more question should I get an "LT" type tire or "P" tire?
Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks,
Ty

Yeah, I've used my POS 255s to hit a few trails. Nothing even close to some serious off-roading but they were OK. I would go for some bigger tires though. That's what I'm about to do.
I'm not a tire expert but I think once the tires get to the larger sizes, they are considered light truck or LT. Just concentrate on the numbers. Good luck!

Ok, lets put this gently.
If you don't know if you need bigger tires, yours are probably ok.
They are really not that bad for "moderate use"
The P ( as in Passenger car) tires are not as heavy load rated and the sidewalls are not as thick as LT ( light truck tires)
I still have my stock P255/70/16 Goodyear RT/S and they are Ok, but I do not encounter any mud, just loose dirt, and brushy stuff.
Mine still look like new with only 10,000 miles. ( um I'll sell em too ya if ya want!)
