Question F150 Lightning tire size?

I am planning to get a set of 18" wheels for my 99 F150. It currently has 17"s with
265 70 17 all terrain tires. What sizes are available when making this upgrade? I would like to affect the speedometer as little as possible by keeping the overall height of the wheel/tire size the similar.

Also, can someone recommend some tires as well? I am looking for more street performance then all terrain capability.

What brand tire is F150 Lightning equipped with? And also, what size/model tires are they?

Thanks

Tony.

Cool

The Lightning tire size is P295/45ZR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS. You aren't thinkin about puttin those on your 4x4 are you? Sorry, can't help ya on the other tire sizes, I only know about the big 4x4 tires.

Mudder,

Hmm... You got me. I am planning to put Lightning wheels on mine. I contacted Tire Rack and they gave me choices of tire sizes. One was 295 45 18s and the other 285 50 18s. I suppose I will go with the tire size used on the Lightning. I will be keeping my stock wheels and tires so I will be using those during winter months. My boss's friend works at FMC, so I am trying to have him get a set for me at a dicounted price. Tire Rack also sells them for $199.00 a piece, the last time I checked.

By the way, your truck looks awesome.

Thanks for your input and I will keep you posted.

Tony

I think Nitto 404 305/55 R18 will be a closer fit to the 265/70 R17 because I am thinking of doing the same thing so I did the calculation and the 295/45 R18 are not tall enough. Just my .02

Hmm... I did not know about the 305 55 18s. You are right. I did the same calculations and it's only about 2mm larger than stock. Question is, since they are a bit wider tires, would they still clear the suspension components inside the wheel wells? Because we are talking about going from 265 (stock) to 305 size widths, I am a wee bit concerned. I don't want to have to use any kind of wheel spacers if I can help it.

I think it depends on the new wheels back spacing.

Correct.
I am planning to get a set of Lightining wheels (18X9 or 18X9.5. I heard of both and I am not sure which one's correct). Lightining comes with 295 45 18 GoodYear F1 GS from factory.
What type of wheels are you planning for your beast?

Question

So, what was your solution, Drangonboy? Did you end up using wheel spacers or did you relocate the parking brake cable?

No spacers, just a couple of cable ties just to pull it away about 1 in. or else it would have rubbed with the wheel, the way tirerack had it balanced, the balance strip tape would touch the cable, no other problem with spaces eventhough I have the Pirelli Scorpion Zero 285/60/18 and you guys want the 305.

Actually, I haven't really decided what size tires to get, just yet. I found out that 305s would also be a good fit, just a few days ago, so I have some thinking to do.
Also, a guy at work tells me that Michelin is supposed to come out with 295 45 18 size performance series tires sometime in October, so I might wait for that to happen as well. I can get Michelins pretty cheap. Anyway, how do you like your Pirellis?
