Question HELP!! 16.5x9.75 WHEELS AND TIRES

I have recently installed a 3" body lift and it's time to order my new wheels and tires now. I am going with the 33x12.5x16.5 or 35x12.5x16.5 inch BFGoodrich AT's because I don't do much off-roading. I am considering the American Eagle 143, American Eagle 589, or the American Racing Baja. Are any of these wheels "hub-centric", or do they all use the lugs to center the wheels. Anyone out there have any comments on these wheels or tires? Will the 35's clear without rubbing the rear of the front fender? I know the front valance will have to be trimmed, but I am concerned about the tires hitting the rear of the fender when the tire is stuffed in the wheel well. Also, does anyone have any pictures of the 143's mounted on their truck? Any comments will be appriciated.

I've the American Racing Baja's 16.5x9.75, and their Hub-Centric. I ran into some problems with one of the American Eagle wheels that didn't center up properly on my hub because it was not a Hub-Centric design.

I'll get the series number of the American Eagle wheel that I first tried; to give to you, so you won't make the same mistake I did.

I've got the BFGoodrich 33x12.50x16.5 AT/Ko tires. I'll post some pics when I get home from work.

Davensa,

How do you like the Yokahama's I am seriously considering a set. How is the noise on highway, how are they in the rain and how are they wearing? Thanks for your advise.

BTW I am planning on running 315/75R16's on a 2001 SuperCrew with 4" Rancho lift. I realise some trimming may be needed.

Question

DAVENSA,

Thanks for the picture! Your truck looks great? Do you happen to have closer picture of the wheels themself? Do you know if these 143 wheels are Hub-Centric? Do you have any problems with them balancing?

NITROX,

I would greatly appriciate any pictures that you can post. Your truck has the same lift as mine, so I should be able to tell how the 33's will look. I am considering 35's, do you think that they will clear without any problems?

CPDICE:

I've not had much practice posting images to this board, but I'll give it another try. Sorry about the truck being dirty, it had just finished raining. I think that 35's would fit, however you might have to trim alittle of the front valence(SP)? off. Hope this helps! Have a good one

The 35's will work....but any way you do it you will not be able to turn the front tires to sharp. It's your truck but I would say go with the 33's, Less work and it will look just as good...My 2 cents worth.

CPDICE,
I don't know about the 35's, however I have a three inch body lift and 33x12.50/16.5 BFG's on Eagle 589's and they do not rub and I did not have to trim anything or even crank the torsion bars. I would love to show pictures, but I don't know how to post them. Hope this helps. Take care.

You can fit the 35s but you will have to jack the torsion bars...with an 8" wide rim, you will only have to jack in up about an inches worth, but with the 9 3/4" inch rims maybe closer to 2" worth of torsion bar lift...don't forget to get the truck re-aligned afterwards and you will have to trim the valence a little too still...hope this helps.

Question

bigbadliftedfordman,

How does the larger 35" tires affect preformance of you truck. Did you notice a lot of loss in acceleration. Is that why you are planning on putting in new gears? My truck has the 4.6 auto with 3.55 gearing. I would like to hold off on having new gears put in for now, but I want to make sure that my truck can lug these tires around. Let me know what you think?

Ordered my tires last week. They will be arriving around the 16th. Since those are 35's I just started saving for the gear swap.
With the 33's you may notice some small difference in pick up but with 35's (coming from 31.6") is a noticeable difference.

Changing gears will depend largely on how important is for you the performance of your truck. I want to have a big truck, but not slow. After the gears some other performance mods will come.
