Post 285/75/16

Getting 285/75/16 BFG AT KO tires on 16x8 Outlaw II rims. Tire store said it is same size as 33/11/16. Should fit ok on stock truck (no lift). Getting put on in a couple of weeks for $1000 out the door, I think thats a great price, and they might buy my stock stuff too. Need pictures of 285/75/16 on F 150s if you have any. Want 305/70/16, but can not get in BFG tires, and can not spend over $1000. 2001 Supercrew 4X4

You can go with Goodyear AT's. They have a 305/70/16 tire. ProComp also has the same size as well.

Check out my page. I've got Goodyear MT/R's and actually they say they are just a hair over 33". By my measurements, at the pressures I run them, they are right at 33". A so called 33" tire usually runs a little under 32.5". And yes, they fit nicely on a unlifted late model F-150.

Cool

I have BFG 285's on my F150, and it's stock. Tires fit great, have never rubbed once, have 22k miles on them.

yes they fit. I have leveled the truck with the torsion bars and there is a lot of clearance. If you want a wider tire, get the 295 BFG tires. They are about 10mm wider than the 285.

Question

I'm thinking of 285/75/16 BFG AT KO's on my 97 Expedition 4x4. It has a 5.4 L, 3.73 LS rear end and currently has the stock Goodyear 265/70/17 tires on the 17" ORP wheels. I'd really like to add some 16x8 wheels and the 285s, but am wondering 3 things: 1) will they fit w/o cranking the torsion bars at all? 2) how much power will I loose with the bigger tires? and 3) how much taller will the truck be (I have some garage clearance issues)? Finally, does anyone know offhand if this wheel/tire combination will fit in the spare carrier on an Expedition with the factory tow hitch?

P/S, mudder, I really like the look of your truck. After the tires I'm thinking of getting the same grill, some KC's and a hidden winch. My Expedition is also black.

Thanks in advance.

Jon P-
Some answers to your questions:

1) Yes, they'll fit just fine
2) Not a lot. The 3.73 gears are OK
3) About 1" taller
4) The spare MAY fit. Some do, some don't- you'll just have to try it and see.

Going to get 295/75/16 on 16x8 rims. BFG does not make a 305 they only make a 315 or 295. So I'm getting 295/75/16, because I am afraid if any taller it will hurt my gears for pulling . I have 3.55 gears with 5.4, 4x4 with towing package. I do not want to loose any power. If anybody has this set up ket me know how it does! 295/75/16 on 16x8 BFG AT KOs

A 265/75 tire is 31.8" tall
A 285/75 tire is 32.9" tall

This is the tire height, so lift difference would be the difference of the size divided by 2. 1/2 the tire height difference above the hub, 1/2 below.

So about 1/2"

Thanks for the answers.

You and I have a similar Ford fleet. My other vehicle is a 99 F-350 PSD Supercab Lariat 4x4. It currently has 285/75/16 BFG AT KOs on the stock Lariat wheels, so I'll pull one of those to see if it fits the spare mount on the Expedition and report back here.
