Got my Goodyear MT/R's
#16
hikerrich,
According to the specs posted on Goodyear's site, they don't make MT/R's in 265/16 or 17. www.goodyear.com/us/tires/tirecatalog/WRLMTRSize.html
DAVENSA,
I agree 100%! I'll have to talk with Center Line, which I havn't done yet, before I can start calling them names. I hope this is just something that slipped by quality control and they'll be willing to make good on it. I can say I will NEVER buy from National Tire & Wheel again. His lack of concern has already cost him money and will continue to in the future. It's obvious I like to spend money on my truck. But it's not going to be at National Tire & Wheel!

Needs one more door.

98fword,
Your experience w/ NTB tells me that they haven't changed much. I've had 2 bad experiences from both NTB and Sears (which I found out is also NTB). Their lies and complete unconcern for their customer have lost them my business for life. Fortunately I got all my money back.
They really should replace your wheels for you, and not leave you hang out to dry so easily. Those wheels look very poorly made IMO, and should be a simple warranty issue. Note however that Centerline may simply make poor quality wheels - in this world, cost does not always equate to quality. I don't have any recent experiece w/ Centerline, but I know some other wheel mfgs have other quality problems (wheels not round, ...).
Here's my 2 cents:
You really need to return to NTB in person, so you can do some homework and because it's a lot easier for them to dismiss you over the phone than in person. First, see if the Centerline wheels on display illustrate the flaws you found - if they don't, you should be in good shape. Don't fool around w/ the sales droid - ask to speak to the manager. Show him the problems w/ your wheels and compare them with the (hopefully) much better display example(s). Ask him if they inspect wheels before they install them, and why they didn't bring those items to your attention. Try to remain positive, but make sure he understands that you expected to get a quality product, and are very dissatisfied with what you received. If Centerline typically produces wheels of much higher quality than you received, than NTB should not have an issue w/ trying to get you another set of rims. If Centerline wheels really aren't that great, then you're probably stuck with what you got.

ChisS,
Thanks for the support. But, NTB is where I purchased the tires. I haven't had any problems with them. I bought the wheels from National Tire & Wheel (mail order) out of Wheeling West Virginia. I'm sorry to here of your bad experience with NTB. Actually, they were pretty decent to work with for me this time.

98fword, Great looking truck. I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the wheels but i hope you get them resolved. I ordered mine (same size) from Discount Tire. I'll try to post pics when i get them mounted.
BTW, i do have one question reguarding the pull handle on the driver's side. Is it from a '01 or could i just order a passenger side one for mine and "flip" it? What size bolts did you use to mount it? Did they come in the package? I guess that's more than just one question. Thanks in advance.

Mr Ficsit,
Check out the thread we have going in the "Other Body" forum titled "Grab handle for driver's side A-pillar". I go into detail about the install there.
Oh, yeah. Here's the latest, albeit not much progress. I've been talking with Mark from NT&W. I also e-mailed them photos of the wheels so they could see the problems I was talking about. He had two sets in their warehouse and opened the boxes to check them. He called back and said all of them were like that. He explained that Center Line has been having their wheels made by Prime (he thinks) and they recently switched to another company. He said that before the switch he didn't have any complaints about that style wheel. And that may be the problem. Since they didn't have any of those wheels that were of better quality, I asked if he could talk to Center Line to see what they have to say. He told me he would call them last Thursday, Dec. 14. I haven't heard from him since. I have the wheels and tires off the truck pending the outcome. Although Mark has been very cooperative, I'm still very displeased about the whole situation. It's taking much too long to get answers. I'll be making more phone calls tomorrow if I don't hear something in the morning.

O.K., here's the latest.
I ended up calling NT&W and talking to Mark. He said he talked with someone at Center Line. Mark explained the problem and the person checked some of the wheels they had and confirmed the problem. The person said they would begin fully polishing the wheels instead of trying to keep out of the "as cast" areas. Mark said it would most likely be after the first of the year when I get replacements. As for the porosity, it looks like I'm hosed there. Unless I want to switch to another type of wheel. Mark says just about all of the cast wheels, no matter who makes them, have some degree of porosity. I'll keep y'all posted as things develop.

ok guys,
i warned everybody...i bought the mt/r's this morning, got tired of spinning the rt/s's without getting much forward movement going...lol...i went with the 265's, didn't want to hurt the torque on my 4.6...i don't really ned a tall tire anyway, just a more aggressive tread...i think these will work just fine...am cutting wood sat. morning, will check them out in the mud, and with a good load in the back...about the noise, these are quieter than the last set of bfg at's i had...or, could the straight pipes be drowning out the hum? lol...any of you guys needing an aggressive tire need to check these out...pricey, but oh so nice...later, Rich.
