Question BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A tires

Anyone have any experience with BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A tires? Specifically, the LT265/75R16/D size tires?

I was originally planning to put a set of 285/75R16 BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO's on my truck, but I think they will be too much tire for me. You see, I use my truck mostly on-road, with occasional use in snow and on dirt/gravel roads. I am looking for a quiet tire with good rolling resistance and wet/dry pavement traction.

Anyway, I have an F-150 SuperCab 4x4 (no ORP or lift) and want a tire slightly bigger than my stock Goodyear P255/70R16's.

Here are the tire measurements:

BFG Long Trail P265/75R16: 10.9" wide, 31.9" diameter.

BFG All-Terrain P285/75R16: 11.3" wide, 32.9" diameter.

Goodyear Wrangler P255/70R16: 10.0" wide, 30.3" diameter.

As you can see, the Radial Long Trail T/A's are almost as wide as the All-Terrain T/A's. I'll be gaining almost an inch in width over my stock Goodyears with the Long Trails. Also, the Long Trails will give me almost 2-inches more in tire diameter over stock.

The Long Trail T/A's have a less aggressive tread pattern which I like too.

So, unless someone can convince me otherwise, I'll be going with the Long Trail T/A's.

If you own these tires, please let me know how you like them. Thanks!

bluecrab,
my hat is off to you...too many people wear out expensive at and mt tires on the road, you know what you want...the long trails are a good tire...several friends of mine have these on yukons and tahoes and really like their performance on the road and in snow...the 265 looks good on the 4X4, i was thinking of the 285 also, and changed my mind after much thought...with me, i didn't want to lose the low-end as i do lots of heavy towing...the 265's have worked out really well...good luck, Rich.

bluecrab. My truck came with long trails from the factory. I've got over 36k on them and they don't show much wear. Traction has been fine in the snow as well. Like you , most of my driving is highway and I've been looking at larger tires without to aggressive a tread.

Thumbs up

bluecrab,
I can’t help you out with that brand but I agree with hikerrich. I just put a set of 265/75/16s on my ’97 4x4 and they look great compared to the 255s, filled up the wheel well nice.

I bought the Longtrail T/A (265/70/17s) to replace my stock Goodyear tires. After only a day, I found that the grip on these tires wasn't much of an improvement. I decided to replace the Longtrails with Bridgestone Dueler ATs and couldn't be happier. They grip better on road while giving you good performance in the dirt and mud. If you never plan to leave the paved road, the Longtrails will probably be fine, but I'd check out the Bridgestones if I were you...I'm really glad that I did. Good luck.

Cool

Bluecrab-
I can't say anything about the BFG Long-Trails, but I can agree with Swamprat when he says that the Dueler A/T's are a great tire. I have them on my truck (265/70/17) and they are really good in the snow, along with the mud and gravel. Very good tractions. I would check into those tires personally. I will be putting a set back on my truck when the time comes, yet agian....
