Got my front rotors off

I had decided to just put pads on the front of my 2000 F150 4x4, but when I did, the back side of the rotors were not very flat. The brake pads on both front rotors on the inside had been only touching in the center. It looked like the outside edges of the pads were not doing anything. So, I decided that the rotors had to be replaced. I took my wheels back off and beat on the rotors with a good size ball peen hammer. After a few strikes between the lugs and then on the face of the disc they finally came off. I put my new Advance rotors on and I hope I don't have any more brake problems for a while. The new rotors were $38.88 a piece.

Over the weekend, I drove my F150 from N.C. to Wisconsin to my new contract job. (Roadie!) The brakes are great. New Advance rotors and Autozone semi-metallic pads on the front and resurfaced rotors and new Autozone semi-metallic pads on the rear. The rear isn't jumping up and down at low speed when I stop now. The truck stops better than when it was new or so it seems.

Thanks for posting. Glad to hear the rotors came off. I'm not looking forward to changing the front rotors on my 98 Expedition, but after hearing all the experiences here, I'll be ready with a BFH, torch, and sawzall, if necessary.

i like using my air hammer with a chissel bit and cut off wheel to make the first cut. but it is easy to hitem with the bfh and crack the rotor disc off then the center section ussually comes off real easy.
