Tire size question...

I just bought a '99 F150 Supercab XLT and the tires are pathetic. I've heard I can get 33x12.50's under it without any trimming or lifting. Is that correct?

Thanks for your help.

Yes. If you mount the 33x12.50's (305/70-16) on 16x10 inch wheels you will have to trim a little plastic off the front bumper's lower plastic valance. You may or may not have to do this with a 16x8 inch wheel.

I thought the 285/75/16 was a 33" equivalent? My plan is to stick with the stock rims because it should help with avoiding trimming. I know I may run into an issue with tire wear, but lifting at this point isn't a good option - of course that is subject to change without notice too

285/75-16's are basically a 33x11.50. 305/70-16's are basically a 33x12.50.

wandell is correct. I had 305/70 16's with 16X10's and no lift (except for the standard torsion bar crank) I had no issues at all except for the very minor, unnoticable trimming of the front valance. If you are sticking with the stock rims I would go 285/75's because of the narrow width of your wheel. A 305 would be too wide espicially appearance wise in my opinion. I hate too much tire and not enough wheel more than anything.

FMEXPLORER,

Is your truck 2wd or 4wd?

Cause if its 2wd, and no lift, I dont see you fitting 305's under there...no way

4wd then maybe so

The only reason I ask for clarification is because some Dummy at Discount tires tried to tell me I could fit 305 75 16's on my stock 2wd screw.... I just laughed and told him I would stick with the 265 75 16's I asked for to begin with.

It's a 4x4, but I think I may still go with the 285's. I've been through the trimming and cutting on my last truck and I want to avoid it as long as possible this time

dunno if this is the same, but I have an 01 Expy 4x4 and I was able to put 285/75/16 tires on the stock 16x7 wheels without any trimming or problems. Thinking of going to 265/75/16 next though 'cause the low end power and gas mileage suck and I can't afford to re-gear. I do like the look of the bigger tires though.

Yeah those 285's will fit completely fine on a stock rim with no modifications whatsoever. My old '97 4x4 held 285's just fine with room to play.

I have 305/70 R16 MTs on my stock rim, 16x7. No trimming is required but the rim is too narrow. I have to run 25psi or they will wear out the center before the edges.
