315/70R17 on stock SCrew

Just for reference, I have the 285/70R17. From the pictures I have seen, I think the 315 looks too big w/o a lift. And, they are black sidewall instead of RWL. Too much black IMHO. My pics at WWW below.
Also, I have a 2003 Supercrew FX4 with most options (heavy) and 3.73 rear gear. Highway performance, towing or empty) is lacking compared to my previous F-150 which was a Supercab (slightly lighter) with 265/70R17's. Fuel economy down about 1.5mpg on average and power down too. This truck unlocks the torque convertor on most small highway inclines when emtpy. I would not want to use 315 tires without a gear swap. And, I believe it was Gearhead who had 315's for a while and experience excessive suspension wear and went back to 285/75R16 which is equivilent to 285/70R17. I am planning to go back to 265/70R17 when this set is worn out.

i put 315's on my stock 02 and had to trim the front valance about 2 inches and i still get a little rub the back side of the fender(near the door) if i hit a bump at full turn. i did an add a leaf in the rear, mostly because of a heavy horse trailer and will def be gettin a 3" body. bottom line is it will fit but there will be no offroading without high possibility of damage without some lift.
good luck

315/70/17
Hello, I never tried the tires under the front w/ out the rancho 4" lift, but i runt the 315/70/17 BFG's AllTerains on all four corners on my f-150 and in the back i left it stock height becasue i wanted it to look a little pre-runner style and the tires clear fine, never have had the rears rub even w/ loads or pulling a trailer. The BFG'S are on the stock 17" Ford rims. They tuck nicely in the back, look perfect in my opinion! I'll have to load up some more pictures. but their is one in the gallery.
I lucked out and got a 4" rancho lift kit from a buddy. for cheep.
The rancho lift claims it will only fit 33" tires w/out rubbing their wrong. I have never had a problem w/ the 315/70/17 on stock rims. The 315/70/17 works out to be a 35" tire. The key is having the stock rims because of the wheel ofset, if you have larger wheels/tires then the ofset is usualy diffrent then rubbing on the front bumper and fenderwels occurs. Hope this helps. Also i was intrested in fitting a 315/70/17 spare tire in the back where the stock one sits and i've had a few shops say this can't be done, but i have never tried it. Sounds like it's worth a try though.
