BFGs AT T/A KO 285/70/R17s on 04 HD Payload???
I just bought a 04 F150 4X4 Supercab 5.4L, with the 8’ Box and HD payload package to replace my aging F250. It has the 4.10 limited slip rear axle and 10.25 gear set.
As some of you guys know it came with the ugliest steel wheels ever developed, with the idiotic, and hard to replace 7-150 lug pattern.
I bought a set of Eagle 058s to replace the wheels, and now it’s time for tires. I’m looking hard at BFGs AT T/A KO 285/70/R17s.
The 058s have an 8” width, so there should be no problems there, is there anything else I should be concerned about?
Thanks in advance,
Chuck

Well guys, looks like I answered my own question, the 285/70/17s will fit fine with the Eagle 058s. There’s plenty of room, and no rubbing when making tight turns. There is quite a bit of exposed tire on the side though, about 1-1.5 inches.
Did get a little bit of a scare when it started to vibe between 55-65 MPH. Thought it might have been THE vibe, but a quick re-balancing solved the problem.
Now it looks like I’m in the market for fender flares. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chuck

Johngs,
Yup they’re still using them on the payload package. My dealer called it a “heavy half ton”. It’s the only way you can get an 8’ box on a F150 now. Here’s the package details from the Ford site:
Heavy-Duty Payload Package (increases GVWR to 8,200 lbs. for improved payload and towing; restrictions apply – see dealer for details) Includes LT245/70x17D BSW all-terrain tires; high- capacity 17" 7-lug steel wheels; heavy-duty shock absorbers; 72-amp battery; upgraded springs, radiator and auxiliary transmission oil cooler; 10.25" gear set; standard 4.10 axle (optional 4.10 limited slip). Requires 5.4L 3V V8 engine. Available for Regular Cab Styleside with 8’ box (145" wheelbase) or SuperCab with 8’ box (163" wheelbase). 4x4 model requires 35.7-gal. fuel tank.
Jordan not Mike,
The 285/70/17s are “D” rated, so I’m all set. Besides, the heaviest load I carry on average is multiple bags of decoys while towing my duck boat. Don’t really need the HD package, but do need the 8’ bed, for my layout boat.

Newbie here,
I would love to see pics of supercab 4x4 HD with those 058's and BFG's. I am seriously considering the exact same setup myself.
I am also curious if you had to adjust your speedo / odometer. the stock rims and tires turned 679 revs per mile. The BFG's would turn only 634 revs per mile. So spedo would be off about 10% by my rough guess. (speedo says 70, your speed actually about 76 to 78).
thanks.
FYI truck on order
2005 F150 SuperCab HD
Silver
Deluxe Mirror, Trailer Tow, Captain's Chairs, Pwr Driver seat,
6 disc/mp3, fogs, keypad entry, esof, skids, moonroof, pwr rear slider, rev sens, polished running boards
I'll probably add and ARE cap and those wheels and tires
