Question Newbie Needs Tires

I just recently purchased a '99 F-150 4wd RegCab Shortbed and i was just curious about how big a tire i can run with no lift. I plan on buying a set of 16x8 wheels with the tires (most likely MT CL II) Can i run 285/75-16's? I know this has probly been covered in the forum, but i couldnt find it exactly, and i want to be sure. BTW, dont be mad because of the name, i love my jeeps but i was born a ford guy. Thanks

You can run 285 with no problems. In fact, you can run them on your factory rims without any problems (that's what I'm doing). If you're going with 16x8's, I would also look at the 305/70/16. It's the same height as the 285 just an inch wider (285 is 11.5 inches wide, 305 is 12.5 inches wide). It's just up to you.

I'd suggest going with a 305/70-16 (33x12.50) on a 16x10 inch wheel. This combo will fit by cranking up the torsion bars and/or trimming a little plastic off the front bumper's lower valance. Here's some pics of my truck at stock height with 16x10 Eagle 058's and 285/75-16 (33x11.50) BFG AT KO's.
