Pulled The Trigger on Bigger Meats...
Just ordered 5 Yoko Geolander A/T-II's sized 285/75-16's for the factory wimpy 16x7 rim. Should be here in 5 days.
Discount Tire has them for $128 each +free shipping. The Tire Rack's have them for $112 but shipping is $130 for the 5 tires, so a $40 dollar savings on what appears to be a superb tire for the price.
My question is should I expect any problems with these tires? I dobn't think rubbing on a '98 4x4 5.4 will be a proble-and with the 3.73 tow package...? What should I do to change the speedo, and what will my "new" rear gear be...?

You should not have any clearance issues whatsoever. You also have enough power to not have to worry about the tires causing an issue in that department. As for the VSS gear, it is located at the back of the transmission on the driver's side. It is held in place by just 1 bolt. All you have to do is take the bolt out and pull the assembly out of the tranny. The gear is held on with a c- clip just take that off and the old gear will come off. Then all you have to do is slide your new gear on, stick the assembly back up in the tranny, put the bolt back on and get it snug (don't get knuckle-bustin' tight) and you're done. When getting the new gear, all you have to do is count the # of teeth on the old one and subtract 2 teeth for a 285 (that's how many I did, anyway). It's like 5 bucks for a new gear and a 5 minute job at the most to replace it.

Yep, they should have the gears in stock, or at least my dealer did. If not, they can get you one in 3 days at the latest in most cases. Just to let you know how easy this is to do. I changed my gear out in the parking lot of the dealership. It took me longer to buy and pay for the gear than it did to uninstall the old one and install the new one.

Tire/Wheel Advice?
I'm looking to size up a bit.. Mild to medium lift, bigger tires.. mostly on-road driving, but I like to hit sand and mud as well..
2004 SCREW FX4, take a look,
https://www.f150online.com/galleries...y.cfm?gnum=5105
I DON'T want CHROME, got a non-chrome theme going on, and I like my factory rims alot.. Would they work with a larger set of tires??
Want a mild-medium lift as well, do I want a suspension lift or body lift?? 3"? 4"? How will a lift like that affect cornering and roll?
Recommendations on tires/lift height/ wheels/rims ???
Thanks..

I just got 295/70/17 which equal a little more than 33". I had no problem with the fit and my speedometer was 2mph off with the stock tires, now with the 33's my speedometer is exact with what it should be. And the 33's worked on my stock rims.
