Do i need to get new gears (regear)?
Now that i have 33x12.50 in 20in rims, do i need to get new gears or regear?
I dont know much about the gear stuff, not even sure what it would cost me or how much work is involved but I have read alot about regearing in the forums when bigger tires are installed.
I have a 01 2wd screw 5.4liter.. I'm not sure what gears it already has (stock).
I dont do much towing but i wanted to see if not changing the gears would mess up my truck.
If i do need new gears could someone point me in the right direction? price? installation? size? etc, any help would be great!

Also where would i look to find out what gears i have, owners manual or on the truck or something?
And regearing, is it alot of work and money?
Thanks

Yes it will put more wear on it. Anytime you add a larger tire you're adding more stress to all components of a vehicle. The question will be how much, and that depends on what you've done to it and how you treat it. If you have something like the Factory Tech Valve Body (FTVB) this will help as it increases line pressure to aid in shifting and keeping the clutchs engaged. A larger trans cooler is also going to help since heat is the #1 destroyer of transmissions. The last is to make sure you get a good trans temp guage and monitor it often. A good rule of thumb is don't let the temps get over 200*. If you have 3.73 gears and these mods you'll be pretty safe, though 4.10s would be best. Regearing by a rule of thumb runs about $600/axle. Since you have a 2wd you only have one to do. Given the questions you've asked I would recommend not tackling this yourself as it requires a good working knowledge of how the gears need to be setup to make them function properly. To find out what gears you have you can either look on the tag on the rear axle or at the axle code on the door jamb sticker.

4.10 FGR on a 2WD with 33s? Seems a bit overdone. I wouldnt go over 3.73 unless you're doing some really heavy towing.
As far as the oil/tranny cooler- I believe the 2001 towing package has both of those... one on each side behind the front bumper. At least it was that way on my '00 sCab ORP w/ a 5.4L.
