Question 35" tires / 4.56 or 4.10 gears

I'm thinking of upgrading my truck from OEM Wheels 33" tires
to 10" Wheels and 35" tires during this year.

What is the recommended gear? I heard about the 4.56 and 4.10 on other posts. My truck is a 1999 4X4 5.4L, with a 3" PA Lift Kit.

I ride in the expressway all the time and don't want to affect the cruising speed too much, but want to preserve the trany in good shape.

thx

It depends on how you use the truck and what your plans for it are. If you don't want to ever go to a taller tire and don't tow or haul, I'd go with 4.11's. If you do tow or haul a lot or think you may go bigger later, I'd go with 4.56's. Personally, if I was doing it, I'd go with 4.56's just for the added performance.

I'm not sure of the best place to buy gears. I'd suggest looking at 4Wheel Parts and Randy's Ring and Pinion as a start. Since you have a 4x4 you HAVE to regear the front and rear.

Both gearsets need to be changed if you ever want to use your 4wd again that is. The gear setup will run you about $1200 and I would NOT recommend setting these up yourself. If its not done properly your gears will eat themselves up in only a couple thousand miles. I would find a good local gearshop that does nothing but gearing. Most places like that will give you a deal on gears and install, but if you want to order them online you can get them from www.randysringandpinion.com. Most shops will install gears you bring in, but will charge a higher labor rate. And I would also go for 4.56. Almost everyone I've talked to that has done 4.10s says its about right for 33s, but not enough for 35s.
