Engine stress w/33's on a 5.4

I didn't want to take over AdamSG's thread with my question.

My truck came with 255/70-17's and 3.73 gearing...so I guess I should be ok with the Mickey Thompson Baja Belted HP's (33x12.50-17) right?

I have just joined this forum and have found some pretty good advice here. Thanks to everyone who may have helped and didn't even know it!

In no way am I an expert mechanic, actually, I'm barely a novice. But I will get my hands dirty trying. So you may see me pop up every now and then with some questions and rarely with any advice, not because I don't want to share...just because I probably have no real answers for you when it comes to engines and the like.

Thanks again for your help.

You should be fine. I have the 5.4, 3.55 gears and 33's and have no complaints. I wish my truck came with 3.73's. My next set of tires would be 35's.

What's the best or easiest way to find out what gears my truck came with? Thanks

SoTxFx4, My gearing was indicated right on my window sticker when I purchased the truck. It was listed under the optional equipment. That's the only way I know what my gearing is.

Your gear ratio is indicated on the VIN tag on the driver's door jamb. Find the code for 'axle ratio' and look HERE to translate the code.

Don't worry about it I have a 4.6 with 3.55's and 35's. Runs fine, other than being a little sluggish off the line.

Like the others have stated you will have not problems. In fact 3.31 was one of the factory gear ratios, with 3.55's and 33's you have a raito of 3.35. So you end up with near a fctory gear offering. You will lose a little off the line, but not much.
