Question 285's or 305's on 16x7 Rims

He ya'll.... new to the forum... looks like a great place.

I have 97 F-150 standard cab 4x4 with stock 16x7 rims. I'm currently running 265/75/R16 Dunlops. I'm gonna go bigger this week. I want to keep my 16x7's.
I'm gonna crank my torsions and add a 2" block or leafs in the rear to give it a little better look and clearance.
The tires I'm lookin at are 285/75/R16's or 305/70/R16's. I'm thinkin about the Kumho MT's.
My main concern is the specs say that the minimum rim width either of those tires can go on is 7.5" Would it be too big of a problem installing either the 285's or the 305's on stock 16x7 rims? Anyone running these sizes on 16x7's with any problems?

Thanks

Welp, I did a search and got all the info I need for the most part. Some people say 285's are the biggest you can go, and some people say 305's are the biggest you can go. I'm goin with 305/70/R16's on stockers unless someone shold convince me otherwise. I don't care about the warranty, I do care about safety though, so hopefully I'm making a wise decision.

It's not unsafe. Usually, running a tire on a wheel that is too narrow will cause the center portion of the tread to wear slightly faster than normal. Similar to the wear you would get from running too much air pressure.

Alright, let me ask you this.... I am running 265 M/T's on my truck now and was running them around 30 psi. I started noticing a lot of excess shaking on the highway after 10,000 miles. I took the tires in to get them looked at and they said the "****/outer treads" were uneven which was caused by running too low of air pressure on the highways. So, I started running around 50 psi. Still got the shaking, but the uneven wear hasn't got any worse.

If I go with the 305's, and have to run lower air pressure in order to get the full face of the tread on the pavement, will I run into this problem again? Because i plan on going with an aggressive M/T.

I think 40psi would be a good starting point, except when towing or hauling.
