Need new tires

Hi,

I have a stock 2002 Expy and need new tires. I have 17" wheels, not sure how wide they are.

Whats the largest tire I can fit, was looking at BFG AT's or Goodyear MTR's
love the MTR's had them on my Bronco and were great.

Kinda like the offroad looks vs street

Thanks for the help and suggestions

The stock wheels are 17x7.5 inches. If you have a 4x4, you can easily fit a 285/70-17 (33x11.50). You could also run a 33x12.50-17 or a 305/70-17 (34x12.50). A few people have fit 315/70-17's (35x12.50) but that is an extremely tight fit. I would not recommend that unless you plan on lifting the truck in the near future.

Thanks for the help Wandell,

It is a 4x4, Would the 33x12.50-17 or a 305/70-17 (34x12.50). be a good fit. If possible I would prefer the 34's but would that kill my mileage or power going up the one extra inch in size.

Thanks again

Going to a taller tire will have some effect. How much depends on what engine and gears you have. Personally, I'd stick with a 33 inch tire.

It has a 5.4L and I think it has 3.55's looking at the tag on the front diff. do you think the 305 70R 17 will fit ok on the stock 17x7.5 wheels without causing the tires to wear to quickly in the centers?

Thanks again

They will fit, but tire wear could be an issue. I know a ton of people who have run 315/70-17 BFG AT KO's on OEM 17x7.5 inch wheels without any problems at all. However, I saw the recent post on the increased treadwear in the center portion of the tread with Pro Comps. Maybe it was just the tires, maybe he had too much air pressure. Who knows? If you don't plan on lifting the truck or adding a wider aftermarket wheel in the future, I'd go with a 285/70-17.

Im on the market for almost 3 weeks for an alloy wheel for a 2001 model when a friend referred me to Auto Parts Train. I got a good deal from this one, thought you guys may check them out in case you're on the lookout for this kind of wheels in the future.
