questions about rims, please help

after looking at rims for my truck which is 4x4, i notice a lot of rims say front wheel drive or rear wheel drive
what does it mean if the rims are for a rear wheel drive vehicle or front wheel drive vehicle? will they work on 4x4?

Our trucks as far as I know are Rear wheel drive. (Yes they have four wheel drive option) but it is not ON all the time. The differences used to be in the offset of the wheel but lately specially in the new F150's the wheels are close to the type a front wheel drive vehicle uses with the way the offset is set. In the past it was much simpler to tell but then the vehicles started evolving and styles starting moving into either category to where RWD and FWD had to be determined. These days it is difficult to sometimes tell whether a car is front wheel or rear-wheel drive just by looking at the wheels. here is a good comparison.

This will clarify ALOT. Good luck.

If you go to a wheel shop, tell them the make and year of the vehicle you want wheels for and they can give you the options of width and lug pattern for your vehicle and go from there.
