PLEASE HELP !! Wandell.... Anybody ??

I got the AS 2.5" front lift on my 05 4x4Screw and now ready for tires and rims. I have decided to go with the 315/70/17 BFG All-terrains. Now I need to know what is the best rim size and back spacing so as not to have any rubbing issues ? The tire store will work with me and order a few different style of rims for test fit over the brake calipers, but I swear you folks know more than they do.

I have found a few different rims that I like, most are 17x9 or 17x8 with 5" and 4.5 inch backspacing respectively. Would like to keep them from hanging too far outside the wheel wells if at all possible.

Please! Anybody with experience in this please help. It's too dang expensive to just guess.

Thank you in advance

Most people running 35's with a leveling kit are using the OEM 7.5 inch wide wheels which have 5.5 inches of backspacing. Try to stay close to that.

Thanks for the input and I would keep my stock 18x7.5 rims but BFG does not make an All-Terrain in a 35" tall tire for 18's, just muds. If I end up with an 8.5" or 9" wide aftermarket rim, is 4.5" or 5" backspace close enough ?

Honestly, I don't think it is. If you are going to aftermarket wheels, I think I would stick with a 33 inch tire. A 9 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of backspacing is gonna stick out 2 inches farther than the OEM wheels, which is going to cause fitment problems with 35's.

I think you're probably right Wandell, I was reviewing a previous post where you explained to me how to figure backspace and still keep things in the wheel wells and my calculations were that they would stick out too far also. I wish someone that is running 35's would post what type of wheels and backspace they are using. I can not afford a 2 grand mistake. Thanks for your help.

Like Wandell said, most of the people running 35's with just a leveling kit are running stock wheels. Running aftermarket (and usually that means wider) wheels causes issues.

If you want to run aftermarket wheels with 35"s, you would probably need more lift to be safe.

But hey, if theyll let you try some different tire/wheels combinations and something fits that you like, go for it. But you might end up sticking with the stock wheels.

I am running 35 12.50 17" mudders with a 17x9" aftermarket wheel with 4.5" backspacing and have absolutely no rubbing. They do stick out some which I personally like. I did alot of research before I did the wheels. I was running the tires on the factory wheels and I thought it looked funny. The tires will look skinney on factory wheels and they really took shape with the 9' wheels.

Thanks for the info ohkyguy, I think I am going with a 17x8 with 5 " backspace. Hopefully that keeps everything close to factory. How do I get to your gallery, I'd like to see just how far those 4.5's stick out?
