Stock wheels vs. Custom Wheel

Hey,

I am trying to find a set of wheels for my f-150. I currently have 17x8 wheels and the I thought about downsizing to a 16x10 wheel, tires are outrageous on a 17" wheel. My local tire dealer is telling me that I can not go to a 16" wheel for the caliper on the brackes will hit the wheel and says that the smallest wheel I can have is a 17". Is this true?

You can go wioth 16" wheels, I have them... I would go with a 16x8 however, a 16x10 is too wide...

That's funny. I'm going from a 16 to a 17 hopefully for a better look.

16" to 17" really wouldn't be that noticeable. Maybe up to 20"?

The selection of tires for 16" is a lot better and alot cheaper

16" fit fine. It's the 15's that you will have issues with. Although I believe there are a couple 15's that will fit, but they have a BS of like 2.5".

IF you had a 04+ then no you couldn't use 16's.

Since you have a 99 you'll be fine.

Your '99 can fit 16" wheels just fine.
The new '04-up F150s cannot fit 16"s, they need at least 17" wheels.

16x8's fit good. nobody at the tire place believed me that i could get sixteen inch rims on my truck but i put them on and there was no rubbing of the calipers. i bought these off ebay for 180 bucks for all four.
