MPG for 35" BF All-Terrian vs. Mud-Terrian

Ford says that the F-150 gets about 14 mpg on city roads. I'm going to be putting on 35" BF Goodrich tires w/ a 2.5 leveling kit on stock wheels. I haven't decided which tire I will be putting on but I know it will be 35". I like the look of the Mud Terrain and it comes with more tread (21/32), but I dont do a lot of offroading. The All Terrian does not come with the white raised letters that I like, and has less tread to begin with (17/32).

1. Which tire will last longer from street driving?

2. If I get 14 mpg now with stock wheels, what will my mpg be with 35" Mud terrians? And what would be my mpg if I had 35" All Terrians?

3. One last question, how do the 35's affect my odometer and speedometer?

1. the AT will last longer street or offroad
2. your MPG is going to change because you are effecting the overall drive ratio with the larger tires not to mention wind resistance from being up higher, there wouldnt be much of a difrence between the AT and MT MPG
3. with 35" your speedo will be off by about 5 MPH give or take a few depending on your current gear ratio (3.55 or 3.73) this is easyly corrected with a tuner

if you dont do much offroading i recomend the AT they will do better on the street and last longer, good luck

Thanks, I figured the mpg would drop from 14 mpg city Ford states the F-150 gets, but does anyone know what the mpg will be if I use a 35" tire? If it goes to under 10 mpg, then I may rethink my decision of 35's. I have the 04 FX4 4x4 with 255's on it now with the 5.4 V8 triton.

Depends on what you have on your truck right now. What motor do you have?? I had 265's on there stock. I put 305's on it and dropped about 5-6 mpg. BUT I have a V6. Once I re-geared it went back to stock. If I were you and you dont do offroading more than 3-4 times a month. Get the all terrains. We have had 4 sets on our 01 powerstroke 4x4 and have gotten anywhere from 50,000 to 80,000 depending on how much you rotate. Ya you add the miles up on that stroke were well over 200,000 and runnin strong. The mud terrains hold up fairly well just depends on how heavy your foot is. Good luck with the choice.

Does anyone know the approx. mpg with a 5.4 with 35" tires? And how much is a tuner to correct the gear ratio going to cost?

I have 315 70 17 which is a 35 12.5 I have BFG AT and without the odometer being corrected which makes you lose 5miles for every 60 you drive meaning 60mph=55mph so if you drive 60 miles your odometer says 55 this is also why our gas mileage is so crappy. We are dividing a lower number of miles into how many gallons of gas we pump. I average 11.5-12.5 but I mainly drive in town not to much highway. The bigger tires beat the crap out of mpg but its worth it in the looks dept. of course i only commute maybe 130 miles total a week to work so my gas bill is not to bad. I average 240 miles a tank with about 4-5 gallons still in the tank at fillup. Tuner is 400 or so if you are going to get a generic tune buy a used one they are half the price. If you are going to buy new then get a custom tune. Oh and the tune will increase mpg.

Its hard to say what your mileage will be, it all depends on the individual truck and your driving habits. But I would say you can expect a 1-2 MPG drop after going to 35s. If you dont correct your speedo it will "be worse" since youll be calculating the wrong number of miles.

Troyer has a deal going on for the XCAL2 right now, $379 SHIPPED (wish I had waited a few months!). Which is a very good deal. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=227214
Looks like the deal ends the 24th, so if you are going to get a tuner anytime in the future, DO IT NOW!

To determine how far off your speedo will be after the new tires, we need to know which tires you have on it now...
