BFGs or Goodyear MTs?

I am getting 285/70/17s. They are avaliable in the BFG AT KOs or the Goodyear MTs.

Which one would wear better on pavement with about 10% off road?

On Tirerack.com, the Goodyear MTs have a better wear rating than BFGs AT KOs.

Anyone have some experience?

I had the old BFG ATs on my 92 Bronco in college and it cupped a little.

THANKS!

I currently have over 45,000 miles on my BFG AT KO's and expect to get at least another 15,000. I can't believe the Goodyear MTR's would come close to that.

I have never had Goodyear MT's. I have had other Goodyear tires and the BFG AT's. Every Goodyear tire I have owned has worn out fast. It seems to me that the Goodyear’s have a softer rubber compounds in use. I can say this, the BFG's lasts a looooooong time. Also you are comparing apples to oranges. The MT/R is more appropriately compared with the BFG Mud Terrain. On the other hand the BFG AT is more appropriately compared with the Goodyear AT/S. The short answer to your question is the BFG AT. Hope this helps, good luck.

Of the two you listed, I would agree that the BFG at would last longer on the road than the MTR.

But as Rochester said, you are comparing an AT and an MT, and any AT will usually last longer than an MT tire. That said, if you wanted to compare the BFG MT and the GY MTR, its a toss up as to which one would last longer, but are good tires.

Thanks for the replies guys. I figured the MT would wear out alot faster but the tire guide on tirerack said otherwise - I dont know how much I would trust the tire guide. I will probably go with the BFGs again.

Seems like a really good all around tire.

The cupping issues I had with the BFS ATs on my bronco could probably be attributed with the fact that the TTB was hard to keep aligned.

Hello rutherk1,

I had 285/70-17's MTR's on my truck great off-road tires but needed to be replaced with less than 30k on then. I got BFG KO's not has good of an off-road tires but a good compromise. They will definitely last longer then the MTR's and since most of my driving is on the highway I think it's a better use of my dollars. I also like the Cooper Discoverer STT's and Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor in the same size.

It has been mentioned that if you sipe a Mud tire that it should not only help in lasting longer but also in traction on the road including ice, rain and snow.
Here is some info on that. I got a Mud tire and siped it and it barely seems to have any wear after 6000 miles. Here is some info on that.

I think BFG look nice and also think they will definitely last longer than the MT. Good luck.

Good year mud terrians have dura wall...stronger side walls than the BFG...I have RT T/A on my 04 F-150 and thier awsome, no complaints...BFG may have a higher speed ratting than the good years....most of my driving time is on road so a aggresive tread dos not work for me...when I do play off road the BFG handel all I can throw with a stock truck..

Those goodyears look really nice (thanks for the link) seems a little expensive compared to the BFGs. BFGs seem like a good deal for a great all around tire.

Going with the BFGs

I'm a little late on this one, but I can attest to BFG's. I've had their A/T's on both my Cherokees and went with their M/T's on my SCrew. I've had this set on my SCrew for a year and a half of mostly on-road driving and you can see by my pics they hardly look worn at all.

I had MTR's on my old truck, loved them off the road but on the road the sucked. Asphault tears them up.
