Yes, you should be able to do it. I have 305/70/16 on my 98 4x4 scab and haven't had a bit of problems.

Dog'em, You have 305's on yours? I have a 97 F250 LD, the guy at the store is telling me I shouldn't go bigger then the 265 75 16. another guy told me I could fit 33's without any lift. I think 305's are equal to 33inch tires right?

It depends on the aspect ratio and size of rim they are on (middle and last number) The first number is just how wide they are (the 305 you mentioned).
I know that a 285/75/16 is considered a 33, and a 265/75/16 is around 31.5ish.

I know on a 97+ 4x4 you can fit 33's with just a little rubbing.
On an older style, I dunno though. My buddy has a 93 and it only sits as high as my 2wd did stock, and even a little less in the back-however there is probably less stuff for them to rub on with the older ones.

Sorry stxx123, I kind of forgot about this post. Yes, the 305 is just a smidge shorter than a standard 33, something like 32.8 and 12.5 wide. Anyway, I have been running them on an aftermarket 8" wide wheel since the truck was new and have never had them rub, it's even a step side that came with the factory splash aprons and they don't even touch. You shouldn't have any issues unless you go crazy with wide aftermarket rims or something. Every F250 LD that I have seen look like they sit a bit higher than my truck. Good Luck.
