Newbie to wheels... any help?

Hey all.
I have a 02 4X4 f150 Screw......
It has the FX4 package w/ 17 -inch wheels and Goodyear
LT265/70R17.......

The "factory" rims are kind of dull and I wanted to get some bright chrome ones..... However, I'm VERY new to wheels and have no idea about any of it.
So please excuse my ignorance, but any help would be greatly appreciated:

1.) What size rims can I get and still keep my original tires? They still have a lot of life left to them.

2.) If I go with a set of 18" rims..... What kind of tires can I get.... For example.... And I'm not even sure they makes theses --- but like LT265/70R18? I assume 18" wheels will fit my stock f150...

Well.... any help appreciated --- or pictures of your f150....
Thanks

If you want to keep your tires for a while, I'd go with a 17x9 inch wheel. When you replace the tires, you can go with a 285/70-17 (33x11.50), 295/70-17 (34x12.00) or a 33x12.50-17 tire.

You said I could get 17X9 wheels? Someone told me only 17X8 would work?
Any thoughts?

Also --- Where is a good place to get a set of bright chrome 17 inch X 9 or 8" wheels?
I'd prefer a 5 sopke bright chrome design --- kind of like stock is.
Thanks

tj

A 265/70-17 on a 9 inch wide wheel is right at the limit. It will work, especially since you plan on upgrading tire size later. As for wheels, there are thousands of choices. I would suggest searching the gallaries here and at FTW for ideas. You may try looking at 4Wheel Parts. They have a pretty good selection and I've seen a couple of their Pro Comp Xtreme series wheels that meet what you are describing.

I would recommend checking for online tire calculators or searching on sites like tirerack.com. On tirerack you can select a size then go to the spec page for that tire, then see other sizes 17, 18, etc. on the same spec page and compare the outer diameter and cross section for each size. I believe standard on my 02 f150 is 30.4 in OD. I went to a 31.5 OD and regret the loss in torque I now have. They do look good though and have good enough clearance. Do research on your wheel brands too. I got discount from tirerack that are now starting to flake on one wheel.

I am not sure if they would fit but a set of the 04'-05' FX4 rims would look pretty cool on your truck. They tires would probably be a little more expensive though being an 18" rim. Check on ebay for the rims.
