Adding Lift And Need Wheels and Tires..

I have a 1999 F-150 4x4 and I am going to add a 3" body lift and I am needing new wheels and tire. I currently have 17" stock wheels. Would it be best to go to a smaller wheel and save on tire pricing since 16's are cheaper thatn 17's. What size wheels and tires should I put under it to keep from having a large space above the tire? Help, Help.....Thanks,,,,

I would suggest a 10 inch wide wheel with 4 1/2 inches of backspacing. Whether you want a 16, 17, 18 or 20 inch wheel is strictly personal preference. Personally, I'd go with a 16 or 18 inch wheel because there seems to be more tire selection in those two sizes. You can fit a 35x12.50 tire, but 33x12.50's will also look great. I would base tire size on your powertrain. If you have a 5.4 with 3.73 gears and don't tow/haul a lot, I'd go with 35's. If you have a 4.6 or tow/haul a lot, I'd stick with 33's.

Question

When buying new wheels are Polished Wheels easy to take of or should I stick to Chrome wheels. I really like the Eagle 187, but they are only polished.

Polished wheels can be a PITA. You have to polish them regularly to keep them looking good.

Dont have to polish

I used to think that polishing aluminum wheels was a PITA too....
Until....I was refurbishing my pontoon boat. Guess what? The pontoons are aluminum & were in need of a good shine. Went to the local boat dealer & they had the absolute best stuff I have ever seen.....'Toon Brite. This stuff is incredible...It worked great on the boat & my old Nissan 4x4 was sitting close by (with polished aluminum wheels that looked like crap) so I gave it a try....About 5 minutes later all 4 of those dingy wheels looked just like the day they were mounted. Simply spray on & wipe off (no kidding).

Check it out:

For whatever reason, there simply is not a decent aluminum wheel cleaner (strength) out there. This stuff is awesome.
