Rear Brake Job $625 vs. $340 ???

I need rear brakes (had the front ones done a few months ago). Anyway... I went to the local Goodyear and they qouted $625. I freaked. The local Ford (who I do not like) qouted $340 (both were to replace rotors and pads).

I asked Goodyear why twice the cost? They told me the replacement parts that dealers install are inferior and they use a high end foriegn brand.

My questions for all you guys is, is this B.S.?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

That sounds like a load of crap.

They could be putting different pads and rotors than the dealer would use, but I would not agree to THAT big of a price difference. I would think that the dealership would use Motorcraft parts, which should be at least as good as the originals.

Good catch there. Dont just give your money to the first guy who has the RIGHT answers.

good luck.

I don't think there inferior but maybe cheaper. Why don't you just change them yourself? I just did my wifes front rotors and pads on her grand cherokee (now these are crappy rotors 40,000miles and you can't even cut them) and it cost me 95 dollars total.

Aside from OEM, Motorcraft brakes are the best on the market. They are the only aftermarket pads to pass the same stringent tests that OEM pads are required to pass by federal law. No other aftermarket brake can claim this In a few cases, the Motorcraft parts outperformed the OEM in fade tests. Unless you want to spend premium amounts of money for racing style brake pads and rotors, stick with the Motorcraft parts.

Save the money, do it yourself and get a decent set of lifetime warranty pads at any decent auto store for less than half of what Motorcraft sell for and there is no difference in quality.

Select quotes from your original post combine nicely:
"rear brakes", "Goodyear", "quoted $625" and "B.S."

Just did mine

Total cost $36 for lifetime pad at Advance------ Why have rotors turned if they are noit warped, back rotors are not likely warped. Easy job too approx. 1 hr.
