2000 F150 4X4 Emergency Brake Adjustment

2000 F150 4X4 With rear disk brakes. Is there a way to adjust the emergency Brake? I see the little rubber dust cover on the back of the wheel, and there is a cog there.

There is a star wheel adjuster inside there, similar to a conventional drum brake. However, unlike a conventional drum brake, the parking brakes are not self-adjusting.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. I finally asked a mechanic in town. He said you jack the wheel off the ground in neutral and rotate the wheel while clicking the adjuster. Do this until it binds then back it until it just turns easily (like older drum brakes). It is a small drum brake apparatus that lies inside the disk brake apparatus. They are a parking brake at best, and not a powerful emergency brake.

It's a good parking brake, and will hold the truck in place quite well. It will also work in an emergence should the hydraulic brake system fail. It's not going to work as well as the hydraulic system, but what emergency/parking brake does??

Is that the same way you would adjust on a 01 f150
