help with tire size

I need help! I bought a 2002 Ford F150 4x4 supercrew (stock hieght)
I love the ride it doesn't feel like a truck. I had plans on putting a 4" lift but don't want to ruin the ride. So I decided to just change the tires and rims to give it a better look. Right now it has 265/75 17. my question is can i put a bigger tire on it stock? I don't mind going to a 16" rim but what size tire would fit good on a stock truck.
Thanks up front for any suggestions or ideas

LT285/70/17 would be a nice size tire. That size tire is basically a 33" tire. I have some pics of this size tire on my 2002 with 17" rims in my gallery.

Most of the lift kits out there keep the ride pretty close to factory. If anything you could do a body lift which wouldnt mess with the suspension at all.

But if you still decide to stay stock, the 285/70R17 is a good size tire, especially if you want to keep the stock wheels.

If you are gonna replace the stock wheels, I'd suggest a 10 inch wide wheel (16 to 18 inches with 4.5 inches of backspacing) and a set of 33x12.50's.

Is there anything to suggest that bumping it up in size from 265 70R17 to 285s will put a lot of extra stress on the drivetrain? I am going to go get new tires today but dont want to work the tranny to hard and mess something up later on.

You are only talking about a one inch taller tire. I doubt they will put as much strain on your truck as towing a trailor.
