So my brakes have been squealing for a few weeks now. I looked at my rotors the other day and they have grooves. WTF? I just had the rotors replaced last July after owning the truck only 8 months. So another 8-9 months later and the new brakepads wear out so badly they gouge the rotors?

I'm lost as to what could be going on. I don't drive like a maniac. I don't brake any harder than the other drivers on the road. BUT... my brother does use my truck maybe 4 times a year to tow his travel trailer camping but he doesn't drive bad either, especially with his family and his trailer using his sister's truck. That is the only thing that I can believe would be harming the brakes & rotors. But why? I mean, doesn't having the towing package and aftermarket brake controller do anything????

Anyone have any suggestions as to aftermarket rotors and brakepads?

I had gotten well over 100,000 miles on my factory rotors and pads. Get EBC ceramic pads and slotted rotors which you can get fairly cheap now.

Make sure your calipers are working properly also. As for the grooving in your rotors in such a short time I don't know what could have caused it. It's possible something could have gotten between the rotors and pads.

I think the my brakes have been squealing for a few weeks part is probably the cause of your rotor grooves As stated before have the calipers checked to make sure they are functioning properly and not sticking. Good luck

Exactly what I thought. Except I only got 75K out of the factory, but was my fault. I was pulling the boat with out trailer brakes, driving kind of hard using the brakes hard before the corners alot. Went to turn around, when I did then I drove into a deep mud puddle. Instantly glazed and cracked the factory pads. Yea they were that hot, I was smelling them pretty bad before. Cooled them right off though!

 

If it makes you feel any better, on my truck I've resurfaced the front rotors once, the rear rotors once, replaced the front rotors, and I'm getting ready to resurface the front again and install updated calipers and pads. And I'm pretty easy on brakes, I spend most of my daily commute on the highway. This has all been for pulsations, the pads themselves are fine but new pads are coming with the updated calipers, so I'll get new pads out the deal too.

 

I can't beieve that no one has asked if you greased the caliper slide pins? This should be done about every 5-6 thousand miles...

For aftermarket brakes, you may want to check out Powerslot Rotors and
Hawk pads... I've heard very good things about them and plan on putting them on my truck when the time comes.

 

Nope, work still sucks bad! To give an idea, we have gone from a support group of 6, down to 2 of us. Our SLA for email support is supposed to be 24 hours. We're working on emails from 7 days back right now. YAY LOVE IT!

I took my truck to the stealership this morning so I'm waiting to hear back to see what they say about my brakes. I mean really, 18k miles total on the truck. Every 8 months I need the rotors & brakes replaced? These new ones better be replaced for free again.
