Widest Tires I Can Put?

My in-laws want new tires, I think they want them wider so I'm trying to find out what options they have.

Truck is a 2001 Ford F150 Super Crew, current tires are 255/70/16

I looked online and found 285/75/16, is that correct?

Does anyone have a listing of what tires sizes are possible on an OE setup, IE no lift or anything like that?

TIA

if its a 4x4 a 285 is a great fit, I have them myself check out the pics if you want (click the camera on the top right hand corner). 285/70/17 is a 33x11.50.

Right, if you have a 4x4, 285's are about as big as you want to go on the stock rims.
If you have a 4x2, 265's are probably as big as you want to go.

It's actually a two wheel drive.

Are there any other options, like 275/70-75/16's?

If not 265/70 or 75/16?

I'd like to know as many possible combinations as there are.

Tire Rack lists 285/75/16 as a plus zero.

TIA

285/75R16 is too big IMHO for Stock 2wd. It looks stuffed and the performance penalty will not be pleasent either. Do they just want wider, or taller and wider?

285/65R16 would be only 2% larger than stock, but over an inch wider. All possible sizes? There are probably about 25 different sizes that will work.

There are many different combinations. Your best bet is to pick a tire you like then see what sizes they have available. 265/75R16 is a very common size, you should be able to find just about any tire you want in that size.

No such thing as a 265/70R16. At least, I have never seen one from the major tires.

I'm a little confused.

Discount Tire tells me that a 285/75/16 will fit, but other than the OE size they don't list anything else.

He did say they had put some 265/75/16 on the same truck before.

I don't know if the in-laws are going to want the 285's, they are huge.

I must not know a lot about tires, how can a 285/75/16 fit but not a 265, I thought a 265 was smaller, and bigger than a 255, so shouldn't it fit?

TIA

not a bit of rubbing, AT ALL, they fit absolutely perfect and no trimming was needed. even loaded down with the fourwheeler in the back down ruff roads. Go for it, you'll be happy, if you've got the 5.4 you wont really notice any difference in performance at all.
