1991 F-150 brake questions

Recenty my front brake line rutured and I took the van to a local garage. He said that the fitings were rusted and a bracket had to be fabricated and it would be big bucks for the repair. Since I only put about 100 miles on the van a year I decided it wasn't worth big bucks but possibily being retired with lots of time on my hands I could do it much cheaper. In my youth I worked on lots of cars because I could never afford a new one. My problem is before I start, I need to find what needs to be replace. I have to be able to idenify the defective parts. I need a manual or a copy of the page containing the brake parts. Is there a link on the internet where you can get copies of the information I need ??
As far as parts being rusted, aren't most fitting brass ??
Would appprecate any information to get me started.
