Backspacing

Hello everyone. I have been doing a lot of reading (about 4-5 hours) about rims and tires, but can not find an answer to a question. I have a 2006 STX 4x4, i am planning on getting the 2.5 inch leveler in the front and the add a leaf in the back. I am looking at getting some new rims and tires but want to find out what will fit. i want to know if a rim with these specs will fit, Size: 17x9
Offset: -6, Backspacing: 4.75". I am not worried about them sticking out of the fender because i like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

factory BS is 5.5" so those will definitely stick out. 5.5" factory backspace minus 4.75" is .75" extra that will be added to area sticking outside including the extra width of your rim of 1.5" over stock. So i believe they will stick out a total of 2.25 inches compared to stock. I hope WANDELL can chime in if that is correct or not. but I believe that is correct. Hope it helps.

Well that is good that they will stick out more than stock. So should I have any problems with rubbing at full crank?

Right. They are gonna stick out about 2.25 inches farther than the oem wheels. They will probably fit fine, if they will clear the brakes. Ford changed brake calipers sometime during the 05 model year and this is causing fitment problems will SOME aftermarket 17 inch wheels. Be sure to test fit one before you start mounting and balancing tires.

So if the basckspacing is less, the rims will stick out further, does that mean that the hub on the rim is deeper in the rim? I hope i made that clear. Is that why i may have brake issues?

Right, the less the backspacing, the more the wheel will stick out. I don't think the backspacing will be the problem with fitment (over the brakes). The problem is the physical size of the brake rotors and calipers.
