How can you tell wheels are clear coated?

I bought these Ford OE wheels on Ebay. They're aluminum and are polished. I don't know if the wheels were originally polished or not but they were recently polished before I bought them. The seller doesn't know if they're clear coated or not. But I've been polishing them with Mothers Wheel polish and Never Dull. They don't look glassy or like chrome but they do shine. But one of the wheels started getting a little cloudy after buffing it out. Is it possible I have rubbed through the clear coat and it's the clear coat getting cloudy? You can't feel anything. You can see it only. Everything is smooth. When I polish all the wheels I get that black oxidation that comes off so I assume I'm polishing the aluminum. Is there a way to tell they are clear coated? I plan on clear coating them myself after I get a good shine but this cloudiness won't go away. If anything it's only getting worse. And It's not the haze from the polish either. It's definitely the wheel.

Thanks
