Question 285/70-17 or 295/70-17

Im getting some of the nitto terra grapplers for my 03 4x4 and I have seen that the terra grapplers come in a 295/70-17 and I was wondering if that would fit w/o rubbing or if I should just stick with the 285/70-17's?

the 295's might rub a hair at full turn, but if you crank the t-bars they wouldnt at all.

You are basically talking about a 33x11.50 tire vs. a 34x12.00 tire. Both will fit your truck.

97-03 F-150 4x4's have independant front suspension with torsion bars. The preload on the torsion bars can be adjusted to change the front ride height of these trucks a couple of inches.

How much you crank them up is a topic of debate. Personally, I think you are alright to crank them up all the way with the OEM adjustment pieces. The point of concern is the CV joint angles. If you get too much preload on the torsion bars, it can put the CV joints at a severe enough angle to cause premature wear. Anyway, just crank each adjustment bolt and equal number of turns untill you get the ride height you want. Most people lift the front of the truck off the ground while doing this. Also, it's not unusual for the two adjustment bolts to be set at different amounts of preload from the factory. When you are through, you will need to have your front end realigned. Here's a pic of one of my torsion bars and adjustment cam. There is one on each side. The torsion bar is the long round bar. THe adjustment cam is covered in surface rust and the adjustment bolt can be seen on the bottom of the cam.

I did mine while it was one the ground, that way I could measure and make sure each side was done eqully WITH the weight on the suspension and had no guessing games once the truck is let back onto the ground.

Just bought the truck for work. its got 65k on it and the oem hankooks are finished so I am putting Bridgestone at's on was thinking of going with the dueller revos but since the lease roads would chew the hell outta the softer tires going with the AT's
