Post Which Brake Pads?

I have a 2002 F-150 FX4 and I can't believe the brakes that I go through. Can anyone recommend a good pad? I do a lot of Highway and City driving but the pads seem to wear out as fast as I put them on. Does anyone else have this problem?

you may have someone check out your calipers, they may not be releasing all the way and slowly grinding the pads off with the brake pedal up.
I replaced my front pads at 30k and now its time to resurface the rotors due to warping. Rear brakes are fine.

I have had the rotors turned before as well. Everything seems to go fine for a little while and then they start to wear down

I have 20,000 on my Wagner Thermo Quiet pads and they are not showing any wear. The original pads are on the rear and at 33,000 are needing replacement.

I swear by the CARBON METALLIC brake pads, I think they are the Best! I do a lot of Very Hard City and Highway Driving and they last me about 65,000 miles AND they make the Rotor LAST LONGER. I run the Carbon Metallics on Stock Rotors on my 2000 Ford Explorer XLT, and on my wifes 1997 Ford Explorer XLT, and I always have excellent brakes and they last a long time. Low dust too.
Get em'. You won't be sorry.

Coming from owning a performance car and experimenting with different brake pads over my ownership of the car i have found that a good brake bed-in makes a huge difference. Don't just go out to your truck and put new pads on and drive it around this will hurt pad and rotor life. I go out with my car bring it up to about 55 to 65 and do a near abs lock-up stops to about 10mph. Do this about 5 times then drive around without using breaks till the breaks are cooled down. Then bring the speed up to 70 to 80 and do the same thing about 7 times them drive around to cool the brakes. With the performance pads I used you could see an ashing on the edge of the pad at the rotor pad contact point.Remenber these speeds where with a car and not a truck also the pads in question had a high fade temp and greater bite than stock pads.

Carquest (Raybestos made) pads, like 99% dust free, last a decent amount, like 60-70k km's and are just a nice pad, the "blue" in color ones. They have a full warranty and are way better than the "gold" pads. Rotors I would cut once maybe twice then replace with the more expensive choice at your favorite store.
