ABS: How do I know I have it?

I have a 98 XLT 4X4 Supercab with the 5.4L that I purchased used.

I know the XLT comes with rear ABS standard but 4 wheel ABS was an option for that year. Is there any way to find out if I only have the rear ABS or if I have 4 wheel ABS?

When braking on the ice, I can feel the ABS kicking in a little bit. When I 1st start up the truck the ABS light comes on momentarily.

Just curious.

Inspect your front wheel spindles for any wiring.

If found, it's 4WABS. If no wiring, it's RABS.

The wire that was referred to will be attached to your soft(flexible) brake line. If you see 2 lines (brake line and ABS line) attached together running under the fender well and the brake area, it has 4 wheel ABS.

The outboard CV will also have an exciter ring to trigger the ABS sensor.

Since your have an XLT more than likely you have 4 wheel ABS. Mostly XL's were the ones ordered without 4 wheel ABS. Obviously you could have had somebody order your truck, but most likely it was a dealer package order.

Okay, there is a 2nd set of wires zip-tied to the brake line inside the wheel well. So it looks like I have 4wheel ABS. Thanks for the help.
