Tires on Stock 4X4

I have a 97 f150 ext. Cab 4X4. I'm looking at getting a set of tires for off-roading and I'm wondering what the biggest size i can fit without a lift is. I saw someone say that I could fit 33s with little to no clearance issues. Can anyone confirm this? Will I need to jack up the torsion bars? What tires do people recommend. I will be keeping my current wheels and tires for use when I'm on the road. If I do get 33s will they be street legal? Being legal isn't that much of an issue as they will be almost exclusively off road tires.

Every truck is a little different, but I have ran 305/70/16(33-12.50) tire on my 02 with no problem at all, I didn't even have to crank my torsion bars to get them to fit, I did anyway to level the truck though. And yes they are definitly streat legal

I jacked up the torsion bars on my '97 just for looks. I didnt need too because the 33's (285/70/17 or 33x11.5) fit fine with out the bars raised. Are you on 16" or 17" rims? I guess it really doesnt matter either way because 305/70/16's or 285/70/17's or 305/65/17's will all fit with out having to raise your t-bars. But I'd do it for looks if I were you. I thought about jacking up the torsion bars but I'm worried about it harshening the ride quality. Plus after I do it I need to get the front end realigned.
I also have 16" wheels right now, but I'm planning on getting new ones just for these tires.

i have 305/70/16s. they fit w/ no rubbing. people say theyre 33's but if u use a tire calculator its really something like 32.61 or something. i'm about to wear my set out and the next ones i'm looking at are ganna be 295/75/16. they are a little over 1/2 inch in diameter wider than the 305/70/16s.

Hey AUEagle. I was also thinking about going with some 295/75/16s. My truck is a stock '00 4x4. I was thinking about going with some 16x8 inch rims. What rims are you going with? Do you also have stock suspension, including torsion bar levels? Thanks.

I have SSR's on my truck they are only 31's but I wanted the 12.5 wide tire. The 33's just look crammed inside the fender to me the 31's fillout my wells nice and the wider tire gives a really mean stance. The tires are also magical in the mud getting me threw some really mean mud and mud sand mixes.

I recommend eithe Nittos or ProComps. I have Nittos currently and love them. The ProComp are great though. They do not wear quickly and I do not recall ever having a flat in them and was off road with them many times. They just might be bulletproof!

Hey Firedognick. Is your truck a 4x4? From what I've heard, 33s on a stock truck fills out the wheel wells evenly

For this reason, I was going to go with 295/75/16s on my 4x4. Does anyone else have an opinion on how this size would fit my stock truck (with torsion bars cranked)?

Ive seen people with that size on their trucks. It looks good and it fills out the wheel wells. Sits up tall too. Dont know what else to tell you but that it will work and it looks good.
