Question Backspacing

okay i am going to either get a 2" or 2.5" AS leveling kit. I have 20x8.5 wheels with 6" of backspacing. I would like to get the bigget tires possible with the leveling kit and i would ideally like to have the tires stick out about 1-2 inches outside the truck when looking at it from the front..what backspacing do i need to have to get the tires to stick out??

The OEM 17 and 18 inch wheels are 7.5 inches wide with 5.5 inches of backspacing. So use that as a guide. An 8.5 inch wide wheel with 6 inches of backspacing will stick out 1/2 inche farther than the OEM wheels.

i have OEM 20's. i thought that higher backspacing meant that the tire would be more under the wheel well, and the lesser the backspacing the farther it stuck out.......

oh i get it. so my wheels will stick out .5" more than the OEM....do you know anything about spacers to get the wheels to stick out a little bit? i would like to keep my same wheels and not buy new ones, so i think spacers would be my best bet?

I didn't realize you had OEM 20's. I think they may be a little wider than the OEM 17's and 18's but I believe the backspacing is the same. The more backspacing a wheel has, the more it will tuck in. The less backspacing a wheel has, the more it will stick out. Generally, wheel spacers are not considered a great idea, but a few members here and at FTW have used them with no problems.

sh*t wandell haha. thanks for your help but my wheels arent sounding like they are what i want. how do you think it would like with a 2" leveling kit, and 34 x 12-12.5 x 20 tires on my 20 x 8.5 wheels with 6" backspacing? that is if i can get that to fit..

what do you think

I'd look at the Toyo MT's and BFG MT KM's.

Keyword Mud. BFG added the "KM" and "KO" to the ends of the model a few years ago when they redesigned (actually updated is more like it) their tires. KO stands for Keyword Offroad.

also another question...i was looking at the toyo open country m/t's and they dont list a 305/60R20. even though they dont list it, can i still order some that size?

I think they will fit, but it will be close. You will probably have some minor rubbing. If Toyo doens't list a size, they probably don't make it.
